Univalent reduction of molecular oxygen by spinach chloroplasts on illumination.
Spinach chloroplasts induced the photoreduction of cytochrome c and photooxidation of epinephrine, both of which depended on oxygen and were inhibited by superoxide dismutase. This confirmed the univalent reduction of molecular oxygen in illuminated chloroplasts. In the presence of cytochrome c, hydrogen peroxide formation by chloroplasts was inhibited completely. Rates for the photoreduction o...
متن کاملReduction of polymeric azo and nitro dyes by intestinal bacteria.
The O(2)-sensitive reduction of high-molecular-weight aromatic azo and nitro dyes by intestinal bacteria appears to be mediated by low-molecular-weight electron carriers with E(o)' = -200 to -350 mV. This process may allow the design of polymeric azo prodrugs for specific release of certain aromatic amines in the colon.
متن کاملBody mass and cuticular transpiration of the pulmonate slug Milax rusticus treated with spinach homogenate filtrate.
The effects of four concentrations (25, 50, 75, 100%) of spinach homogenate filtrate over a period of 96 hours on the body mass and transpiration rates of the pulmonate slug Milax rusticus, a crop pest found in Benghazi, Libya, are reported. A decrease in body mass and transpiration rate in filtrate treated slug over time was evident and the differences in these factors between control and trea...
متن کاملOld yellow enzyme: stepwise reduction of nitro-olefins and catalysis of aci-nitro tautomerization.
The Old Yellow Enzyme has been shown to catalyze efficiently the NADPH-linked reduction of nitro-olefins. The reduction of the nitro-olefin proceeds in a stepwise fashion, with formation of a nitronate intermediate that is freely dissociable from the enzyme. The first step involves hydride transfer from the enzyme-reduced flavin to carbon 2 of the nitro-olefin. The protonation of the nitronate ...
متن کاملA new reagent for selective reduction of nitro group
The nitro group in aromatic nitro compounds containing reducible substituents such as methyl, carboxylic acids and phenols, and halogens are selectively and rapidly reduced at room temperature to the corresponding amines in good yield by employing hydrazine glyoxylate in the presence of zinc powder or magnesium powder. It has been observed that hydrazine glyoxylate is more effective than hydraz...
